Discover all that Dalston has to offer families through a whole host of free events taking place  across two weekends of Saturday 27 May and 3 June during the half term holiday.

The Dalston Children’s Festival is the perfect way for Hackney’s children to be entertained for free whilst giving families the chance to discover the fun to be had in Dalston all-year-round.

Gillett Square will be hosting a Pop-up Playground, Hula Hoop workshops, the WRAP co-work and play space, and an outdoor version of the popular Tots Tunes music session

Both days:

Pop-up Playground – our crazy shapes from Snug & outdoor – create your own adventre land! All day

Hula Schoola – learn to spin a hoop and jump a rope like a pro with Marawa’s Majorettes!

Free workshops at:

  • 12.30 Hula-Hoop
  • 2pm Jump Rope
  • 4pm Hula-Hoop

27th May Only:

WRAP Co-work and Play: 10.30am- 12 Midday  Ages 3-5
Join WRAP for an interactive storytelling session and adventure to a far-away land. There will be map drawing, telescope building and more. (Plus desk space, wifi & coffee for your Mum & Dad!)

Tots Tunes: 10.30AM–11.15AM

For ages 0-5 and their parents
No need to book, but please arrive promptly (limited places).

Interactive parent and baby classes combining original tunes and folk songs from around the world with a bit of a workout!

 

Some of the other highlights of the festival include:

  • Pasta Armando Festival in Dalston Square, learn all about pasta and Italian food, if you’re lucky you can also grab one of the 500 free portions of pasta made by famous Italian chef Lorenzo Toppi
  • Children’s music workshop using sticks, chairs, djembe drums and improvised instruments to learn West African rhythm patterns at the Vortex Jazz Club
  • Puppet making at the Arcola Theatre
  • A performance of Kirikou by the Hackney French Youth Theatre and a screening of the film A Cat in Paris (u) (subtitled) at the Rio Cinema

The Dalston Children’s Festival is a community-led event and has been organised by the Dalston Children’s Network (DCN), a collective of organisations that have an on-going offer for children and young people in Dalston, and is supported by Hackney Council.
