Groundwork East London’s long term project to tackle climate change with pupils from three Hackney secondary schools made a public appearance on Gillett Square as an interactive exhibition. Students from Hackney Free and Parochial, Mossbourne Community Academy and Skinners Company for Girls schools, their friends, families and the wider public were invited to engage in debates and activities addressing ways in which individuals and specific communities, such as schools, can reduce their carbon footprint and reuse natural resources.

Schoolchildren at Cool Climate receive awardsAttendees were invited to take part in practical activities with ecoActive such as recycling waste materials into jewellery and seed planting in waste containers with staff from Groundwork East London. Traid also led a session in creatively reinventing second hand clothing; a film about environmental awareness made by young people was screened and a new board game designed by Cool Climate participants with Universal Board Games was launched.
