The event was hosted by Hackney's Poet Laureate Adisa, and there were speeches from Ken Livingstone Mayor of London, Jules Pipe Mayor of Hackney and Jennette Arnold GLA member.

From mid afternoon to early evening a large crowd was entertained by music, dance and other performances. The highlight of the event was a performance of Andy Sheppard's Dalston Saxophone Massive featuring 200 saxophonists. Festivities were rounded off with fireworks.
